FAQ

Engagement rate calculator, answered straight.

Is the engagement rate calculator free?
Yes, completely free with no login and no credit card. It runs entirely in your browser — your numbers are never sent anywhere.
How is engagement rate calculated?
The most common formula is engagement rate by followers: (likes + comments + saves/shares) ÷ followers × 100. If you know your reach for a post, you can also calculate engagement rate by reach: interactions ÷ reach × 100, which better reflects how people who actually saw the post responded to it.
What is a good engagement rate on Instagram?
There is no single official number — it varies a lot by niche, audience size, content format and posting cadence. As a rough, widely-used rule of thumb, under 1% is considered low, 1–3% is typical, 3–6% is strong, and above 6% is excellent. Treat these as a starting point for comparing your own posts over time, not a fixed benchmark.
What's the difference between engagement rate by followers and by reach?
Engagement rate by followers measures interactions against your total audience size, so it tends to fall as your follower count grows even if performance stays the same. Engagement rate by reach measures interactions only against the people who actually saw the post, which is a more direct read on how compelling that specific post was.
